Cat Illnesses - Constipation

Cat constipation can be caused by any one of a range of cat illnesses and cat conditions. Some are serious cat illnesses, others are more trivial. They include poor diet, hair balls, lack of excercise, old age, broken pelvis, hormone imbalance, tumours and misaligned spine.

A cat suffering from this condition will have difficulty passing a stool, have a distended abdomen, lose its appetite, and like a lot of cat illnesses, appear lethargic. When it does pass a stool it may be hard and dry.

Unless it is caused by a physical condition such as a broken pelvis, cat constipation can be treated with mild laxatives and adding fibre to the cat's food. More stubborn cases will require veterinary attention.
