Cat Illnesses - Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease
Feline lower urinary tract disease is a term used to group together a range of cat illnesses that affect the cat's urethra. It can be caused by infection, mineral stones forming in the bladder or tumours.
Some of the symptoms of FLUTD can be confused with other cat illnesses, so it is important to correctly diagnose FLUTD. The symptoms include straining while urinating, only producing a dribble, pain while urinating, blood in the urine, vomiting, irritation and restlesness.
Depending on which of the cat illnesses causes the FLUTD, the treatment will vary. It may be antibiotics, it may be dietary combined with flushing out the bladder. Urine acidification is one possible treatment.
