Cat Illnesses - Periodontal Disease
The most common of dental cat problems is caused by a build up of food particles, saliva and bacteria around the cat's teeth. This eventually forms a hard mineral deposit between the teeth and gums, which can lead to the teeth falling out.
The range of symptoms for this cat illness is fairly wide. Excess saliva, chewing on one side only, bad breath, inflammed gums, irritability, diarrhoea and vomiting, pus on the cat's gums, bleeding gums, pawing at the mouth, loose teeth, loss of appetite and difficulty eating are all signs that may be present.
The treatment depends on the level of severity of the cat's illness. It is best to consult a vet. Severe cases will require extensive dental surgery for the cat.
