Cat Illnesses - Ringworm

Ringworm is a fungal infection of skin and hair that produces skin lesions on the cat. Sometimes the lesion heals from the centre, and hair grows there first, hence the name.

Ringworm can easily be mistaken for other cat illnesses, and can present itself in different ways. The more usual symptom is scaly patches of bare skin on the cat. Sometimes this can be widespread. Other forms of ringworm will have a general effect, affecting the fur over the entire cat. It is also possible for a cat to be a carrier of ringworm and show no symptoms.

For less severe cases, the cat will not require any treatment. If that is not appropriate, treatment can be a shampoo, injection, oral medicine or ointment.
